A South Africa – Ghana Visa Will No Longer Be Needed by Citizens, According to a New Report
Great news for the citizens of South Africa and Ghana!
As of November 1, 2023, travellers countries were in for a treat.
Holders of ordinary South African and Ghana passports will be able to stay, travel, and explore each other’s countries for a combined total of 90 days each calendar year, without needing a South Africa – Ghana visa.
Yes, you heard it right – according to the Ghana News Agency a visa is no longer required! Just pack your bags, grab your passport, and you’re good to go.
There is just one caveat – this visa waiver agreement applies to non-working stays only. If you plan to work OR if you accumulate over 90 days, a Ghana visa for South Africans will still be necessary.
Likewise, you will still need a visa.
➦ Ghanaians looking to work or to stack up more than 90 days of travel time in South Africa can go to the Department for Home Affairs for the Republic of South Africa. Here they can apply for a South Africa visa online.
➦ South African citizens can apply for a visa to work in Ghana can visit Ghana’s Ministry of the Interior website. For an extended stay, apply at the Ghana High Commission online.
This development is in keeping with South Africa’s easing of restrictions throughout the year. For example, the similar agreement with Kenya, to take effect in January of 2024.
And it’s not just about travel; trade agreements are also going to get a fresh look in the near future.
So Ghanaians and South African citizens will be able to look forward to a bit less hassle next time they decide to explore each other’s realms.
