Cabot Trail Maple Cream: The Famous Route’s Signature Liqueur
Are you looking for a way to take a bit of the Cabot Trail home with you?
One of my favourite discoveries after moving to the Cabot Trail a few years ago was Cabot Trail Maple Cream. It’s named after the winding coastal highway on Cape Breton Island.
It’s one of those drives that has you staring out the window, mentally bookmarking every scenic pull-off. The Canadian grain alcohol and rum-based cream liqueur, with a touch of maple syrup, is a great way to take a bit of this stunning highway home with you.
What’s so special about this liqueur?
If you haven’t tried it, Cabot Trail Maple Cream is a rich, smooth liqueur made from a blend of fresh dairy cream, pure maple syrup, and dark rum. Add the flavours of cocoa, cinnamon and almond liqueur, and it’s absolutely decadent.

Many first try it while taking in our coastal scenery, and leave with a new appreciation for the island’s flavours.
Long after you’re back home, its combination of the best of these local flavours will bring to your mind that carefree feeling you found all along the trail.
The magical blend is produced right here at the bottom of the trail in Baddeck. It’s one of the few liqueurs produced in Canada, and it’s become a favourite for anyone looking for a comforting taste of Nova Scotia.
What visitors tend to love about Cabot Trail Maple Cream, beyond the flavour, is how it actually captures the feeling of this spectacular area. They say it’s like bringing a little piece of the trail home – a simple reminder of a treasured time. I’d have to agree.
These days it’s become even more than just a drink. It captures the spirit of Cape Breton’s hospitality and sparks conversations about local history and traditions.
Where can I buy it?
You can find the liqueur here at NSLC stores in Ingonish, Cheticamp, and Baddeck. It’s worth taking a look at smaller NSLC vendors, too, like the Neil’s Harbour Co-op and the Cabot Trail Food Market in Cape North, to see if they have it in stock.
These days Maple Cream also can be found at liquor stores across Canada, and it’s made its way onto shelves in some international spots, too. You can pick some up any time you want a reminder of your time on the Cabot Trail – until the next time you visit.
For me, it’s perfect in a coffee after a day spent hiking with my dogs on one of the incredible hiking trails along the trail. Or poured over a bowl of ice cream. There are even cocktail recipes on the Cabot Trail Maple Cream website.

Relive a bit of your road trip from home
You can sit out on your deck at home and watch the sunset with a little Maple Cream over ice, and relive your favourite parts of your road trip along the Cabot Trail.
