Cape Town is Home to One of the Newly Declared Coolest Neighbourhoods in the World

Cape Town has it all.
The coastal South African city is internationally known for its beaches, food, natural attractions, and so much more.
In the first half of 2023 alone, the Mother City welcomed 4 million visitors from around the world. They came to tour the winelands, revel in the views from Table Mountain, and explore the V&A Waterfront.
Now, thanks to an annual list published by Time Out, they can come to tour one of the 40 Coolest Neighbourhoods in the World.

Along with areas in metropolises like Hong Kong, Copenhagen, and Edinburgh, as well as the U.S.’s New York City, Sea Point in Cape Town, South Africa has officially been declared ultra-cool.
And not for the first time. So what’s it got going for it?
The list is a result of garnered opinions. Some 12,000 people local to these neighbourhoods weighed in. The final choices were based on “factors including community and social ventures, access to open and green space, and thriving street life.”

Here’s what there is to know about Sea Point:
Just a few kilometres west of Cape Town’s central business district, and a mere 5-minute drive from the V&A Waterfront, you’ll find this affluent and cosmopolitan residential suburb.
It sits along a stretch of land facing northwest, out across the Atlantic Ocean. Behind it is Signal Hill, and to the southeast, iconic Lion’s Head.
Along the beach is the beautiful 6 km Sea Point Promenade. It offers stunning ocean and mountain views and some of the best sunsets you’ll find anywhere.

The ‘Sea Point Prom’ stretches from Mouille Point all the way to Bantry Bay. It’s the sunny beach vibe of the Prom that brings most people out. It’s a favourite spot for everyone, whether you want to stroll or prefer a faster pace.
There’s even an off-leash area for your furry friends.
But Sea Point is not just about the stunning views, it also encourages an active outdoor lifestyle. You’ll find parks and playgrounds, an outdoor gym, and even a mini golf course.
And where the promenade meets Bantry Bay is Saunders Rock Beach, a pretty and popular rock pool. The perfect spot for a swim, and a great place for watching the sunset.

The beaches of Sea Point tend to be rocky, and the water can be rough. If you’ want’d like something a little calmer, there’s more outdoor fun at the Sea Point Pavillion.
Those who aren’t up for a swim in the cold waters of the ocean have their choice of pools here. Whether you prefer laps, a few swan dives, or splashing around with your kids, there’s a pool for you.
Beyond the Beach
The Sea Point Prom is lined with shops, bars, and decadent restaurants. During the day, sample local delicacies, enjoy some retail therapy, or simply sit back and watch the world go by.
When the sun goes down, dive into the dynamic nightlife on Main Road.
The area also has a growing yoga community. A selection of yoga styles can be found in the studios along Main Road, too.
The Community
The community is as diverse as it is lively. A large Jewish community calls Sea Point home, and the neighbourhood also sees a broad range of populations and all age groups represented.
The neighbourhood’s large population lives in attractive beachfront apartments and highrises with spectacular views.
If you’d like to join the community for a while, there’s no shortage of hotels, bed and breakfasts, guesthouses, and vacation rentals.
